Rates^* of reported cases^† of acute hepatitis B, by state or jurisdiction — United States, 2022

States or jurisdictions are grouped by quintiles of the distribution of the rate of reported acute hepatitis B cases per 100,000 population. The state-specific rates of reported acute hepatitis B varied throughout the country during 2022. The jurisdictions in the highest rate category of 1.2–3.0 cases per 100,000 population include (in order of increasing rate) Alabama, Indiana, Tennessee, the District of Columbia, Kentucky, Maine, Florida, and West Virginia. States with the highest rates of acute hepatitis B were primarily located in the eastern and southern parts of the country, particularly in or near the Appalachian region.
