• Establishing the timeline, scope, roles, and plan for the 2022 HAI Rebaseline project.
• Developing an initial communications and partner outreach strategy, including sharing preliminary plans with external partners such as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
• Freezing NHSN HAI data from 2022; preparing analytic datasets that will be used for subsequent modeling work.

• Conducting a literature review of recent studies that identified factors that are potentially associated, or not associated, with the incidence of HAIs.
• Evaluating clinical significance of potential risk factors to inform risk adjustment decisions.

Analysis and Model Development

• Creating and validating new risk adjustment models.
• Creating methodological standards to be applied across the development and validation of these statistical models.
• Engaging with subject matter experts in review of model results.

Model Implementation

• Developing standards and requirements for incorporating 2022 risk adjustment models into the NHSN application and datasets.
• Testing and deploying analysis reports for new SIR and SUR models within the NHSN application.

Education & Communication

• Updating NHSN users and other stakeholders about the 2022 HAI Rebaseline project via blast email, the NHSN Newsletter, and/or other communication channels.
• Developing content including Quick Reference Guides, webinars, websites, and Quick Learns to educate NHSN users and stakeholders about using and interpreting SIRs and SURs calculated under the new baseline.

Adoption, Integration, & Collaboration

• Ensuring that Federal, State, and other partners are informed and supported during the implementation of the new risk adjustment models.
• Collaborating with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to work towards future adoption of the 2022 baseline SIRs into CMS programs.
• Integrating new risk adjustment models into various CDC downstream products and publications, such as the National & State HAI Progress Report.
