The 2014 Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander National Health Interview Survey (NHPI NHIS) was a nationally representative survey of about 3,000 households. Each address included one or more Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander (NHPI) residents. Family disability questions
The Family Disability Questions file contains a set of core disability questions. The American Community Survey (ACS) developed these questions and was the first federal data collection to use them. They were later adopted by several federal data collection systems. HHS adopted these questions as a minimum standard for survey questions in 2011.
Functioning and disability
The Functioning and Disability supplement was part of the 2014 Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander NHIS Sample Adult Core questionnaire. Functioning is the ability to perform daily activities.
NHPI NHIS instrument randomly selected half of the households to receive these questions. The supplement was part of an effort to develop and adopt a minimum standard set of disability questions for surveys.
