Overview
The 2014 Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander National Health Interview Survey (NHPI NHIS) was the first federal survey designed to exclusively measure the health of Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander people. NHPI NHIS collected data from about 3,000 households with one or more NHPI residents.
The National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) modeled the NHPI NHIS on the National Health Interview Survey.
Using the 2014 National Health Interview Survey, NCHS collected information for the NHPI NHIS about:
- Health status and health conditions
- Disability
- Access to and use of health services
- Health insurance coverage
- Vaccinations
- Health-related behaviors, like physical activity and sleep
- Characteristics and behaviors that increase the risk of illness, injury, or death (risk factors)

Trained U.S. Census Bureau NHIS interviewers used the 2014 NHIS questionnaires for NHPI NHIS. As a result, statistics from the 2014 NHPI NHIS can be compared to 2014 NHIS statistics
