Impact of Educational and Community- Based Programs

Education level is a powerful predictor of physical/mental health and longevity. Schools can play a critical role in providing information, tools, and practical strategies to help students adopt healthy lifestyles. Community health promotion programs have improved health, reduced health disparities, and supported communities to reverse risk factor trends for obesity and chronic disease.

Shows the status of objectives 7-1, 7-2, 7-4 and 7-10

7-1, high school completion, is improving

7-2, school health education, is improving in all areas, violence prevention, and injury prevention. The remaining areas show little or no change.

7-4, school nurse to student ratio, is improving in middle and high schools (combined), and in senior high schools. Target is met for middle schools. Elementary schools show little or no change.

7-10, community health programs shows little change

High school completion for 18 to 24 year olds. Total, White, Black, Asian and Pacific Islander, 2 or more races, and Hispanic.
