About these resources
Who this is for
The Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) for Marburg Virus Disease (MVD) training materials provide IPC training for frontline healthcare workers and healthcare facility management in non-U.S. settings. These materials apply to all healthcare facilities that are not designated MVD treatment facilities.
What this is for
These materials provide training on key IPC activities to prevent MVD transmission to patients and healthcare workers. They can help healthcare facilities with limited resources prioritize IPC activities to prevent MVD transmission.
How to use these materials
The IPC for MVD presentations are short enough (15-25 minutes per training session) to be integrated into the workday, and content may be mixed and matched to meet participant needs. Scripts and speaker notes are provided for each presentation so that being an infection control expert is not necessary to take or lead these trainings.
Training Materials
These training materials apply to all healthcare facilities that are not designated MVD treatment facilities.
IPC in the Context of MVD
IPC is a patient safety and public health specialty that enables the safe delivery of healthcare through minimizing or eliminating the risk of infection. It helps protect healthcare workers, patients, and the surrounding community.
In healthcare facilities with limited resources, routine IPC strengthening is part of a larger effort to ensure delivery of safe, high-quality care. In emergency responses, priority IPC activities in healthcare facilities should focus on specific actions to contain the spread of the pathogen.
During an MVD outbreak, the main IPC priority in healthcare settings is preventing the spread of the virus and rapidly identifying infected people. This is done through efficient screening and triage systems, rapid isolation of those with suspected MVD, and notification and referral of these patients to MVD treatment centers.
