Puerto Rico

Established in 1912, the Puerto Rico Department of Public Health (PRDOH) provides primary, secondary, tertiary and supratertiary health services to the population in Puerto Rico through a regionalized health system, and has the sole public authority responsible for planning health services. Its mission focuses on health promotion, prevention and protection and health services. Puerto Rico’s Secretary of Health, appointed by the Governor, heads the agency. PRDOH is the agency responsible for the epidemiological control of HIV and for developing and implementing public policy regarding this subject.
