Epi Info™ 7 Salmonella Outbreak Tutorial
This tutorial is an introduction to the basic concepts of Epi Info™ 7. It uses a fictional foodborne outbreak investigation for the training scenario. Topics include creating a survey in Form Designer, using Check Code to customize data entry, creating some analyses with the Visual Dashboard, and presenting data geospatially with Epi Map. Each lesson builds on the knowledge learned in previous lessons. Therefore, we recommend completing each lesson in the order presented before moving to the next lesson. Data files used in this tutorial are included in the Epi Info™ 7 download packages.
Tutorials for Epi Info™ 3.5.4
Epi Info™ 3.5.4 Community Health Assessment Tutorial
This course teaches Epi Info™ 3.5.4 within the framework of a Community Health Assessment. Beginner and Intermediate students will learn to create a survey, enter data, and analyze the results. Graphing, mapping, and presentation methods are also covered in this comprehensive overview of Epi Info™. Advanced students will benefit from the Intermediate Analysis lesson, which focuses on data management and uses data readily available in epidemiologic work from sources such as the United State Census Bureau and the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS).
The Epi Info™ 3.5.4 Cholera Outbreak Tutorial
This course, Cholera Outbreak in Rwenshama, teaches Epi Info™ 3.5.4 using a case-study based on an actual investigation of an outbreak of cholera in Uganda. This course is intended for individuals with strong basic computer skills who are expected to collect, manage, and analyze data.

Epi Info™ comes with three tutorials that illustrate epidemiologic methods using Epi Info™ 3.5.4. These can be accessed from the main Epi Info™ Menu by clicking Help > Tutorials and selecting the tutorial you would like to view.
- Oswego Tutorial
This classic tutorial describes an outbreak investigation following a church supper in Oswego, New York, U.S.A.
Objectives include how to create the following:
- a line listing;
- an epidemic curve;
- 2X2 tables and associated statistics; and
- Food-specific attack rates.
- Rhodo Tutorial
This tutorial describes the investigation of a postoperative rhodococcal infection after open heart surgery.
Objectives include the following:
- make up a questionnaire for descriptive and case-control studies
- construct a questionnaire in Epi Info MakeView and enter data
- revise a questionnaire
- guide data entry with Check Code
- perform sample calculations and obtain random numbers
- analyze data and draw conclusions
- Surveillance Tutorial
This tutorial covers the scenario where you provide consultation and advice on computerizing a surveillance system in a developing country.
Learning Objectives include:- important decisions if remote sites must report to a central site
- identification and updating of records and error correction
- data integrity and confidentiality
- summary data versus individual episode records
- considerations for staffing, equipping, and running a surveillance system
