From 2010 to 2015, CDC, the Office of Adolescent Health, and the Office of Population Affairs collaborated on an innovative teen pregnancy prevention project. This project tested the effectiveness of multicomponent, community-wide initiatives in reducing rates of teen pregnancy and teen births.
About the Community-Wide Initiatives
Nine state- and community-based organizations and five national organizations were funded through the 5-year cooperative agreement, Teenage Pregnancy Prevention: Integrating Services, Programs, and Strategies Through Community-Wide Initiatives.
The five national organizations provided training and technical assistance to the nine state and community-based organizations. The state- and community-based grantees, in turn, provided training and technical assistance to local health centers and youth-serving organizations. This work involved five key components:
- Community Mobilization.
- Stakeholder Education.
- Evidence-Based Programs.
- Increasing Youth Access to Quality Sexual and Reproductive Health Services.
- Working with Diverse Communities to Promote Health Equity.
