Sub-County Life Expectancy: A Tool to Improve Community Health and Advance Health Equity

This map shows the pattern of life expectancy at birth by census tract for King County Washington for 5-year aggregated data (2008–2012). The difference between the highest and lowest tracts is 24 years. Lower life expectancy is concentrated along the I-5 corridor and primarily in south Seattle and southern King County; some small areas are located in north Seattle.

This map shows the 28 health department jurisdictions that participated in Phase I and Phase II of the SCALE project. Phase I state jurisdictions include Florida, Massachusetts, Maine, New York, Washington, and Wisconsin. Phase I local jurisdictions include Los Angeles County, California, and King County, Washington. Phase II state jurisdictions include Alabama, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, and Virginia; and Phase II local jurisdictions include Alamance County, North Carolina; Alameda County, California; Caswell County, North Carolina; Chatham County, North Carolina; Cleveland, Ohio; Cook County, Illinois; District of Columbia; Durham County, North Carolina; Erie County, Pennsylvania; Houston, Texas; Johnson County, Kansas; Maricopa County, Arizona; Metro Area Planning Council, Massachusetts; Orange County, North Carolina; Salt Lake County, Utah; Shelby County, Tennessee; and Washington County, Minnesota.
