Peer Review: Toluene diisocyanate

At a glance

NIOSH created a peer review plan for a draft recommended exposure limit for toluene diisocyanate. This chemical is part of a family of compounds called isocyanates that are widely used in the manufacture of flexible and rigid foams, fibers, coatings such as paints and varnishes, and elastomers. They are increasingly used in the automobile industry, autobody repair, and building insulation materials. Workers exposed to isocyanates may develop serious or fatal respiratory disease.
