† Based on responses to numerous questions, which can be found in the appendix of the source publication. Any complex activity limitation = difficulty with
specific tasks, including personal care, attending school, keeping house, or working. Movement difficulty = difficulty with at least one of eight activities because of a
health problem and without using special equipment. Emotional difficulty = a score of 13 or higher on the K6 serious psychological distress scale. Seeing or
hearing difficulty = vision problems, even when wearing eyeglasses, or being unable to see at all, or having trouble hearing without a hearing aid, or being deaf.
Cognitive difficulty = limited in any way because of difficulty remembering or experiencing periods of confusion.
During 2001--2005, the percentage of adults who were current smokers was greater among those with emotional
(43%), cognitive (27%), movement (24%), and seeing or hearing (23%) difficulties and among those with complex
activity limitations (26%) than among adults with no disabilities (20%).
