During 2000--2002, the age-adjusted diabetes death rate for Hispanics was 64.5% higher than for
non-Hispanic whites in the United States. The difference was even greater in counties near the
U.S.-Mexico border, where the age-adjusted rate for Hispanics was nearly three times the rate for non-Hispanic whites.
