Cycle IV of the National Survey of Family Growth (NSFG),
conducted in 1988 by CDC's National Center for Health
Statistics (NCHS), was based on personal interviews with a
national sample of women aged 15-44 years. The interview
focused on the respondent's fecundity; past and current use of
contraception; dates and outcomes of pregnancies, if any;
marriages; use of family planning and infertility services;
and a wide range of social, economic, and demographic
characteristics. Statistics in the report highlight the first
national estimates of trends in the fecundity status of all
reproductive-aged women in the United States, regardless of
marital status.
