Examples of how Florida is working to prevent overdose

Peer overdose hospital interventions

Duval County partnered with Gateway Community Services to implement Project Save Lives, which uses Certified Recovery Peer Specialists with lived experiences of addiction recovery, to connect with drug overdose survivors while they are recovering in the emergency department.

Improved statewide data sharing

Florida made significant strides in improving relationships with medical examiner districts, leading to better data access. Florida now submits and disseminates contextual, statewide data involving overdose deaths to the districts, meaningfully improving the public-facing substance use dashboard on FLHealthCHARTS.
