IIS Policies: Montana

What to know

Immunization information systems (IIS) are confidential, population-based, computerized databases that record all immunization doses administered by participating providers to persons residing within a given geopolitical area. This information details how to access immunization records for vaccine recipients who received a vaccine in Montana.

General Information

Montana's IIS is called imMTrax, and it includes immunization records for vaccine recipients of all ages. Visit this webpage to learn more about the IIS.

The jurisdiction is authorized by law to operate imMTrax. For more information, please see Montana Code Annotated § 50-1-1.

Child Consent to Participate

For children, imMTrax requires explicit consent with opt-out by law. Parent(s)/guardian(s) must give explicit consent, or opt in, for their children to participate in the IIS.

The child consent policy is based on alignment with the jurisdiction's health privacy law.

For adults, imMTrax requires explicit consent with opt-out by law. Adults must give explicit consent, or opt in, to participate in the IIS.

Provider Reporting

Montana does not have a mandate for vaccination providers to report immunizations to imMTrax. The provider reporting policy:

  • Establishes voluntary provider reporting.

Data Sharing
