Immunization information systems (IIS) are confidential, population-based, computerized databases that record all immunization doses administered by participating providers to persons residing within a given geopolitical area. Iowa's IIS is the Immunization Registry Information System (IRIS), and it includes immunization records for vaccine recipients of all ages. Visit this webpage to learn more about the IIS.

Child Consent to Participate

For children, IRIS requires implicit consent with opt-out by law. Children are included in the IIS unless their parent(s)/guardian(s) choose to opt them out.

Provider Reporting

Iowa does have a mandate for vaccination providers to report immunizations to IRIS. The reporting mandate:
