Christa Capozzola, MBA
Global Health Center (GHC)
Ms. Capozzola currently leads GHC's policy, communications, management and informatics teams.
CDC role
Ms. Capozzola joined GHC as Director for Management, Operations, Communications, and Policy in August of 2023. Ms. Capozzola is responsible for ensuring effective budget justifications, external and internal communications, partnerships strategy, information technology and global data modernization, financial planning and human capital management.
Previous experience
Ms. Capozzola previously served as CDC’s Chief Financial Officer and Director of the Office of Financial Resources. In this role, she led over 600 CDC staff to support the financial management, budget, appropriations, grant making, and contracting for the agency.
Prior to joining CDC, she worked at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), where she served as Director of Budget and Resource Management, and as Deputy Assistant Administrator in the Bureau for Democracy, Conflict and Humanitarian Assistance.
Before USAID, Ms. Capozzola served in the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB), National Security Division, as Chief for International Economic Affairs. Ms. Capozzola's management experience also includes roles at the U.S. Department of State.
Ms. Capozzola joined the federal government service after program management roles in global non-government organizations, and experience in management consulting and capital markets. Ms. Capozzola also served as a community agriculture volunteer in Peace Corps Mauritania.
Areas of expertise
Ms. Capozzola has over 20 years of experienced in federal government leadership in regard to budget and program management in international affairs and public health. She also has 15 years of experience in the private sector in finance and management.
In 2023, Ms. Capozzola received a Presidential Rank Award. This award recognizes exceptional long-term accomplishments. Ms. Capozzola was nominated for her consistent track record of strategic and innovative resource management accomplishments.
In 2022, Ms. Capozzola's leadership was recognized by the Department of Health and Human Services Secretary's Award for Distinguished Service. During the pandemic, she coordinated CDC's effort to plan and responsibly execute the COVID-19 emergency funding budget. This allowed to put in place new grant mechanisms to get funding to tribes and tribal organizations reaching over 490 entities.
