Updated Tables, February 2011
Beginning with the 2005–2006 survey period, NHANES revised the race/ethnicity definition, and the variable was changed from Ridreth2 to Ridreth1. Ridreth1 includes a multi-racial category that slightly affected the number of participants in categories of non-Hispanic white and non-Hispanic black. As a result, the proportion of participants classifying themselves as either non-Hispanic black or non-Hispanic white are slightly fewer after 2005; there appears to be no effect on the Mexican American category. Applying the current racial/ethnic definition (Ridreth1) to previous Survey periods shows that the effect is 2% or less on non-Hispanic black and non-Hispanic white populations. Additional information about the racial/ethnic definitions is available at: DEMO_C (cdc.gov)
The tobacco-specific N-nitrosamine, NNAL, is a new chemical reported for the NHANES 2007–2008 survey period in these Updated Tables. 2,4-Dichlorophenol and 2,5-dichlorophenol were reported in the Third National Report on Human Exposure to Environmental Chemicals for the NHANES 1999–2000 and 2001–2002 survey periods. 2,4,5-Trichlorophenol, 2,4,6-trichlorophenol, and ortho-phenylphenol were reported in the Fourth National Report on Human Exposure to Environmental Chemicals for NHANES 1999–2000 and 2001–2002 survey periods. Due to improvements in analytical methods, the data for these five analytes in the 1999–2000 and 2001–2002 survey periods have been removed from the NHANES website and are not reported in the Updated Tables. Data for these five analytes are included in these Updated Tables for the NHANES 2003–2004, 2005–2006 and 2007–2008 survey periods.
