Mr. Black is currently Vice President of Hospital Operations, Laboratory Service Line at Oschsner Health in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Experience
Mr. Black has more than 30 years of experience in the laboratory environment. His leadership experience encompasses community hospitals, several laboratory outreach and inpatient laboratory settings.
He spent the last nine years as Assistant Vice President of Avera McKennan’s Laboratory System and as Laboratory Service Line Administrator. Avera’s Laboratory Network spans five states and six medical regions. This includes over 300 locations and 18,000+ employees, including both Clinical Laboratory and Anatomic Pathology services. Prior to that role, he served as the Laboratory Director at Baptist Saint Anthony’s Health System in Amarillo, TX.
Since coming to Avera in 2012, Mr. Black helped Avera's Laboratory maintain the first International Organization for Standardization (ISO 15189) certification in the country. This makes it, currently, the longest running hospital ISO 15189-certified laboratory in the world.
He has led successful inspections for the:
- College of American Pathologists.
- Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy.
- ISO reaccreditation.
Mr. Black led the Avera Laboratory division to attain a United Network for Organ Sharing accreditation. This made it the only human leukocyte antigen (HLA) testing laboratory in the region.
