CDC expanded the capability of laboratories to detect and identify emerging opioids and other drugs of concern through Traceable Opioid Material® Kits (TOM Kits®).
Overview
The TOM Kits® product line provides reference materials for fentanyl compounds, synthetic opioids, and other emerging drugs of concern based, in part, on US Drug Enforcement Administration Emerging Threat Reports, the National Forensic Laboratory Information System, and the Center for Forensic Science Research and Education Scope and Trend Reports.
Traceable Opioid Material® Kits are reference materials and do not eliminate the need to meet analytical method requirements of other federal agencies or the need to comply with state and local regulations. Traceable Opioid Material® Kits are not for diagnostic use.
How to access Traceable Opioid Material Kits®
TOM Kits® products and services are available free of charge through vendors to public and private US laboratories. Proof of current Drug Enforcement Administration-controlled substance registration is required for scheduled products.
These materials are distributed by Cayman Chemical, an ISO-accredited reference material producer, to labs in the US and its territories. Labs eligible to apply for the EDP kit must have a valid DEA controlled substance registration for Schedule I controlled substances.
