Funding overview

2024-2027

The NYS Environmental Biomonitoring Program will assess statewide exposures to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), pesticides, and metals among Environmental Justice communities.

2019-2024

The NYS Environmental Biomonitoring Program assesses statewide exposures to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), pesticides, and metals among the New York state population to establish baseline data. The New York State Department of Health is also expanding capacity and capabilities in ongoing investigations of PFAS exposures in at-risk communities across the state.

2009-2014

The New York State Department of Health set forth the following goals to build or expand its biomonitoring program:

  • Expand the range of environmental chemicals that were measured in the 2004 New York City Community Health and Nutrition Examination Survey
  • Assess exposure to depleted uranium (DU) in a population of upstate New York residents and in former workers of National Lead Industries, Colonie, Albany County, New York
  • Assess exposure to methyl mercury among two Chinese communities in New York State.
